Sometimes using a case on a smartphone just isn’t enough for some users. Sometimes there is a need for a phone specifically made for rugged conditions and that’s where the CAT S48c comes in. The CAT S48c is the latest smartphone from CAT. Most everyone knows CAT makes large earth moving equipment and construction gear but the company has also licensed their own line of rugged smartphones.

The CAT S48c will be launching on the Sprint network which will be a first for both Sprint and CAT. The company says that durability is the core idea of the CAT S48c as it is capable of withstanding drops, dust, vibration and even extreme temperatures. The phone can be submerged in four feet of water up to 35-minutes and the camera can take photos underwater.

CAT’s ideal market are those who work and play in stressful conditions. This includes everything from construction, agriculture, transportation, manufacturing, logistics and field services, to recreational activities such as hiking, fishing, biking, climbing or rafting.

“The CAT brand is incredibly popular for both consumers and businesses, especially for their dedication to building products that excel in rugged environments,” said Kim Green-Kerr, senior vice president for business sales, Sprint. “We are excited to be the first U.S. carrier to launch the CAT S48c smartphone. It continues our longtime commitment to customers that demand a phone that can brave the toughest environments and keep their teams connected when it matters most.”CAT S48c has a dedicated, programmable key located on the side of the phone that pairs perfectly with Sprint Direct Connect Plus™, the industry standard in push-to-talk communications. Offering nationwide coverage with one-to-one, group and broadcast calls, Sprint Direct Connect Plus gives you a way to quickly and easily check project status, notify your workforce and keep your mobile workers in the loop.

“We are excited to launch the CAT S48c on the Sprint network, bringing Cat phones to a whole new customer base who can now use one of the industry’s most rugged smartphones,” said Peter Stephens, CEO of Bullitt, global mobile licensee for Caterpillar. “The CAT S48c is an uncompromised smartphone, perfect for anyone who needs a device with class-leading durability, one capable of withstanding the rigors of the day.”

The CAT S48c’s powerful 4000mAh battery provides up to 30 hours 3G talk time, useful when your day takes you somewhere you’re unable to charge your device, while its heavy-duty rugged credentials including IP68 water and dust proof and MIL SPEC 810G ensure it is built to continue working no matter what it’s faced with
