We’re here at CES 2019 checking out the Samsung goodies for 2019. Today’s announcement isn’t exactly a huge secret. The 2018 Samsung Q900 8K UHD TV was already announced at IFA to the European market. Now Samsung has introduced the 2019 Samsung Q900 8K to the North American market here at CES 2019.

We got a chance to take a look at this beast and it is magnificent. Of course, the price is likely equally as large as its physical dimensions. The 2018 model is priced in at US$14,999.99 so this isn’t going to be a cheap TV and since it is 8K capable with AI upscaling, that adds to the cost.

Samsung’s Q900FN TV delivers the best in QLED flagship picture quality, design, smart features and now for the first time – 8K resolution. Samsung recently released the first commercially available 85” 8K QLED TV and will deliver more sizes in 2019, including a 98” model. Samsung’s proprietary AI-powered 8K Upscaling technology enhances lower resolution content to 8K quality.

Samsung told us they expect the 8K market to grow quickly. Samsung also says 8K will deliver more detail than ever before with a resolution of 7860 x 4320 with 33 million pixels. You can also expect Samsung’s QLED technology to get even better for 2019. Expect deeper blacks and even less haloing than ever before on a QLED TV. Haloing had been one of the issues QLED had verses OLED but Samsung has almost made that a non-issue.

“At Samsung, we’ve worked tirelessly over the years to move the industry forward when it comes to premium picture quality, and the introduction of the Q900FN with 8K AI Upscaling is an integral component as we look to the future of displays. We’re thrilled to introduce the Q900FN to consumers and are confident that they will experience nothing short of brilliance in color, clarity, and sound from our new 8K-capable models.”

Samsung is betting big on 8K this year and I’d expect that they’re just getting started with the 2019 Samsung Q900 8K. For now, this one is probably out of my pocketbook’s reach. Pricing and availability will come later. Check out Samsung’s website for more.
