Chris Hemsworth is probably best known for playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But the actor is pretty versatile and has done many other roles including, Rush, The Huntsman, and 12 Strong. Now, Netflix has picked Chris Hemsworth to play the iconic wrestling legend Hulk Hogan in a Netflix biopic.

Netflix is said to be in the very early stages of the biopic but Hemsworth will be the star and producer of the film. Variety is reporting that Netflix has obtained the exclusive life rights and consulting services of Hulk Hogan, otherwise known as Terry Bollea. Todd Phillips is slated to direct the biopic with Scott Silver and John Pollono serving as the writing team.

Phillips has his name attached to films such as War Dogs and The Hangover trilogy.

Producers are Michael Sugar through his Sugar23’s first-look Netflix deal along with Joint Efforts’ Phillips and Bradley Cooper, Eric Bischoff, and Hemsworth. Hogan will executive produce along with Sugar23’s Ashley Zalta. Co-producers are Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman.

It’s interesting to see Eric Bischoff attached to this project as he and Hogan were pivotal in the rise of WCW which made a valiant effort at overthrowing Vince McMahon’s WWE.

The film is going to cover Bollea’s “formative years” as he began his rise into the businesses and eventually the face of wrestling itself. It will most likely also touch on Bollea’s stint in reality TV, his divorce, and his lawsuit against Gawker Media. There is no release date for the project just yet but we’re interested in seeing it when it is done.
