Meizu’s newest flagship smartphone is packing the Snapdragon 855 with a dual 48MP OIS camera

It’s been a minute since I’ve used a Meizu phone but from what I remember, they make some really nice hardware. Meizu, like Xiaomi, are pretty big in China and other countries. You won’t see them in North America very often. This is because many times their LTE bands aren’t compatible with North American bands. That’s not going to stop us from at least informing our overseas readers about this fantastic looking device.

The new Meizu 16s is powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset, this is the same chipset that powers the latest Sony, Samsung and LG phones. The company is also touting the phone’s dual 48MP camera with OIS (optical image stabilization) built-in. I have to say that dual OIS is impressive and so is the Snapdragon 855. Especially when you see that the price is only RMB¥3198 (around US$476).

The phone comes in Pearl White, Carbon Black, and Phantom Blue and you have some options for RAM/Storage configurations. Here are the options with pricing:

  • 6GB RAM / 128GB: RMB¥3198 (US$476)
  • 8GB RAM / 128GB: RMB¥3498 (US$520)
  • 8GB RAM / 256GB: RMB¥3998 (US$594)

The display measures in at 6.2″ and is a Super AMOLED panel, kudos for that! The bezels are all super thin and the 16s has a 91.53% screen-to-body ratio. This is in part due to the in screen fingerprint sensor, something others have already done but it’s a welcome sight on a phone priced under US$500.

Meizu attaches great importance to camera specs, comes with 48 MP Sony IMX586 + IMX350 dual camera, Meizu, once again, shocks the world with its impressive camera setup in Meizu 16s after the Meizu 16th flagship smartphone. The advanced algorithm of AI-engineered cameras allows users to take photos with joy.

Sony latest IMX586 smartphone sensor comes with 48MP and Quad Bayer filter array, in which every 2×2 pixel array has the same color filter. As the signals from the four adjacent pixels are added, raising the sensitivity to a level equivalent to that of 1.6 μm pixels (12 megapixels), resulting in bright, low noise images. With an F/1.7 aperture and the OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), it significantly boosts Meizu 16s camera performance during low light capturing, allowing it captures mind-blowing pictures in dark light conditions.
