There was no question that Avengers: Endgame was going to do well, especially after the box office success of Infinity War. Due to how Infinity War ended and Endgame is the culmination of a huge story arc for Marvel, analysts expected Endgame to do better and boy did it ever.

The previous box office records were set by Avengers: Infinity War and included (in USD):

  • $640 million worldwide opening
  • $250 million domestic opening
  • $1 billion in 11 days

So just how well did the culmination of 10 years of Marvel movies do during its opening weekend? According to Box Office Mojo, Endgame wracked up some hugely impressive numbers and smashed more than a few records.

HOW TO: Change system date in OS X from Terminal
  • $1.2 billion worldwide opening
  • $350 million domestic opening
  • $1 billion in 5 days

So, as you can see, not only did it do better than its prequel, it obliterated the worldwide opening record by nearly double. Other records that Avengers: Endgame can now lay claim to include:

  • Best worldwide opening
  • Best foreign opening weekend
  • Best opening day gross
  • Best single day gross
  • Best single day Friday gross
  • Best single day Saturday gross
  • Best Singe day Sunday gross

Of course, also holding the best theatre averages, widest releases, and widest opening releases records helps as the extra theatres and showtimes contribute to the opening gross totals.
