Sony’s new car receiver comes with a big touchscreen display

Most newer cars these days already come with a touchscreen monitor that will display the radio, some built-in applications, and more. They may even run Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Those who may not have a newer vehicle with a touchscreen display have a new aftermarket choice: the Sony XAV-AX8000.

This receiver comes with an 8.95-inch TFT Active Matrix LCD panel with a resolution of 800 x 480. Sure, this may not seem like the greatest resolution but for a car receiver, you don’t need a 4K screen. With this aftermarket screen, you can get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in your older car. Don’t worry about it not fitting into your dashboard because it’s not meant to. The design allows it to “float” and lets you adjust the tilt, depth, and height of the unit.

With the built-in 4 x 55W amplification, you’ll be able to hear your music and other audio more clearly at higher volumes. If you’re looking to also add in your own sound system, you will still have that option with the three five-volt pre-outs. Sony also added in a rear camera view which ties into your existing backup camera if you have it and will provide some guidelines when you’re backing into parking spots.

Sony hasn’t disclosed a price or availability yet but you can sign up to be notified when it’s coming out. Since this is an aftermarket unit, it’ll probably cost some extra funds that will likely hurt your bank account.
