Power stations, portable power stations, and portable power in general is becoming a big thing in the past few years. Companies have been popping up and putting out some intriguing products, and Greenworks came to CES 2024 to show off its PowerHub home energy storage system.

The Greenworks PowerHub compact modular system integrates a powerful LFP Lithium-Ion battery with a hybrid inverter, the utility grid, solar panels, and even a generator to provide homeowners with reliable energy in all conditions.

Working together, the system will reduce or possibly even eliminate an electric utility bill, allowing homeowners to be more energy independent. The Greenworks PowerHub also can store energy from the utility grid during offpeak hours, which can be used during the most expensive peak hours in the mornings, evenings, and holidays. Here’s what the press release had to say.

This clean energy solution, along with numerous other Greenworks ® battery-powered innovations, will be on display at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week.

“Our PowerHub Home Energy Storage System can significantly reduce a household’s carbon footprint, decrease electric bills, and provide power during a grid outage,” says Klaus Hahn, President of Greenworks ® North America. “This revolutionary system is a long-term investment that can increase the overall value of a home, plus the clean energy benefits everyone.”

A convenient app allows homeowners to manage the PowerHub from anywhere in real time. They can monitor consumption, backup power, charge/discharge levels, and more, from a PC or smartphone. In addition, they can set preferences to optimize for energy independence, outage protection or savings, and get instant alerts.

The flexible modular design is stackable and expandable for a home’s growing energy needs. The easy-to-install, compact system doesn’t require a lot of floor space; it can fit on a garage wall and leave enough space for a car.

Many homeowners aren’t aware that when the power goes down from the utility company, it is mandated to shut down a home’s solar panels. This is necessary to keep from back-feeding power to the grid, which could be life-threatening to the utility line workers. The Greenworks® PowerHub will automatically disconnect a home from the grid and direct the solar power to the on-site battery to keep essential appliances running with zero interruption. Even if a home doesn’t utilize solar panels, it can rely on hours of backup power during power outages. Typically, a home’s solar panels generate more power than the home can use during the day; the PowerHub stores this surplus energy to be used when it’s needed most.

The Greenworks ® PowerHub Home Energy Storage System especially benefits homes that often experience power outages, such as coastal areas, wildfire-prone areas, and regions with planned power outages. Plus, some homeowners can participate in demand response programs and earn credits or payments from utility companies. In addition, some states grant a property tax exemption or other tax benefits to homes with solar energy solutions.
