We all know Google’s main revenue stream has always been ads and Google ads will now be showing up in your Google Play Store App. The ads are apps put at the top of search results that the developer of that app pays for. If you’re searching for a flashlight app you might find the top result with a small (Ad) logo in the description, this indicates that developer paid for their app to come up first.
Monetizing the Google Play Store could mean a huge revenue bolster for Google already adding to their advertising coffers. However, there are some arguments that selling ads could hurt smaller developers who don’t have the funding to buy the ads. The apps listed at the top that are ads might not be the best, while the ones that could be better, are pushed further down the list.
It’s a fine line but one Google is willing to walk and it seemed to work for them in early beta testing. For now the feature is slowly rolling out so don’t expect it just yet. I know you all are excited to get the update, everyone gets excited about ads.
