Is Pepsi Creating Their Own Android Based Smartphone?

Pepsi is one of my favorite sodas to drink, while not a favorite of others who shall not be named (Jason Bouwmeester). Pepsi has decided to join the world of smartphones. It’s very odd to see a soda company with very little background planning to create its own Android based smartphone.

The phone was found on a Chinese website called Weibo, that dubbed the name of the device”Pepsi P1.” So it sounds like the device might only be released in the Chinese market on or around October 20th per leaks. Unfortunately, no word on who’s going to be manufacturing the device.

The P1 will be considered mid-range, but as far as specs go, they’re pretty decent. The device comes with a 5.5 inch 1080p screen, a MediaTek Processor clocking in at 1.7GHz combined with 2GB of RAM. The phone isn’t sounding too bad so far. The battery size is 3,000mAh which can get you through a day, 16GB internal storage, but no word if it’s capable of supporting more storage thanks to a microSD card. Cameras on the other hand are 13 megapixel for the rear facing shooter while the front facing camera is 5 megapixels. The phone will be running Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box and will be priced around $200USD.

As I’ve said before, it’s strange to see Pepsi, a beverage company getting into the smartphone world and come out with something with relatively good specs. What are your thoughts about this new Pepsi P1 made by Pepsi? Do you think it’s meant to really play against other OEMs or just to gain attention and money? Anyone else wanting a Pepsi after reading this? Let us know by leaving your comments down below, or on Google+, Facebook, or Twitter.
