Watch Dogs 2 Moves To San Francisco

While the original Watch Dogs was set in Chicago, the upcoming sequel will be moving to the San Francisco Bay Area. Ubisoft felt that this setting was perfect for Watch Dogs 2 and version 2.0 of ctOS (Central Operating System) due to its status as a hub of technology and connectivity. Watch Dogs 2 includes representations of six well-known Bay Area regions including San Francisco (the game version of which has three distinct regions), Oakland, Marin County, and Silicon Valley.

In Watch Dogs 2, you’ll play as Marcus Holloway, a young hacker from Oakland who’s part of a hacker collective called DedSec. After being wrongly identified as a highly wanted criminal, Holloway hacks ctOS for his own purposes. Like the original Watch Dogs, just about everything mechanical or electronic in the game can be hacked, including smartphones of nearby pedestrians, parked vehicles, and more. Ubisoft has extended the capabilities of the hacks and Holloway can also remotely take direct control of other vehicles.

Holloway also has an advanced 3D printer which allows him to craft weapon upgrades and disposable drones, and can be used in addition to his other lethal and non-lethal weapons. Ubisoft has also worked on improving driving in Watch Dogs 2, and each vehicle offers a unique feel and are more accessible.

While Holloway is going after ctOS because he was wrongly identified, he’ll also have to work at attracting more followers for DedSec. and gamers (in the U.S.) can join DedSec with their Uplay account and complete activities to redeem for in-game rewards, Watch Dogs 2 gear, and other prize packages. In the game, DedSec followers will use their resources and computers to help Holloway achieve his missions.

Both the world and missions are open-ended, allowing players to complete missions how they want, and in what order they want — some with storylines attached, others being side missions. Either way, completing missions will increase your DedSec follower count and bring you closer to finishing the game. A seamless online experience will also allow you to team up with other hackers without having to wait for menus or loading screens, and you can play with your friends as well as cross paths with random players within the game.
