Review: VOXX Soundboard With Soundflow Audio, A Portable Speaker Solution

Soundboard

Let’s face it, cell phone speakers are not all that great.  As a matter of fact, they are mostly pathetic. About the only phone I have found to have great sound is the HTC One. With its front facing speakers and Boom Sound it is hands-down the top dog of sound in cell phones. There are a few phones that have decent sound, acceptable but not stellar. And it is these phones and others that could use a little assistance in amplifying that sound. Enter the Soundboard with Soundflow from VOXX. Thanks to VOXX for the review unit they sent in black with green trim.

David Geise, President of VOXX Accessories Corporation

“The SoundFlow product line grew out of a simple desire: to make it as easy as possible to turn smartphone audio into sound that’s big enough to enjoy out loud. The Soundboard takes this convenience one step further, by making SoundFlow completely portable. Just place any smartphone with music playing on top of the Soundboard to enjoy music anywhere in a big way! When you’re ready to move, just pick up the Soundboard and your phone, and go. It doesn’t get any easier.”

The Soundboard is a nicely designed, pill-shaped speaker and amplifier system. With a total output power of 2W it’s not the beefiest speaker on the market, but then it’s not pretending to be either. The Soundboard offers two options for power: 5V DC or batteries (3xAA, sold separately), with an LED power indicator. The materials are top notch, the device doesn’t feel cheaply made or chintzy.  With a price point of $29.99 it’s not overly expensive yet they took care to use decent material.

The way the Soundboard works is very simple.  You can connect your phone via AUX cable and the sound will be pumped into and out of the Soundboard. But the second option is just so very cool. Simply lay your phone on the soundboard (take care to position it the correct way, see instructions) and the sound will be picked up and amplified through the Soundboard’s speakers. You have to be sure to have the phone in the right spot. There is a sweet spot here and it may take some trial and error to locate it.

It’s really that simple, and the sound it delivers is extremely good for having such small speakers and for the price you’re paying. If you go into this expecting booming bass, high end highs and balanced mids, you will be disappointed. The Soundboard isn’t high fidelity but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t high quality. Sure you’re going to get better sound from a Bose speaker, but you’re also going to pay four to five times more for it. At a very affordable $29.99 the Soundboard is a definite sound solution for a small room, travel or anywhere you want a little amplification. I really enjoyed my Soundboard and even found it useful in the vehicle, letting the children listen to their music in the very back while my wife and I enjoyed ours through the speakers in the front of the car.

The Soundboard from VOXX is a great little speaker with an even better little price. Totally worth your time if you’re looking for a small and portable sound solution. I recommend the Soundboard, hit the link below to check it out for yourself.

Pros

  • Great price
  • Great design
  • Quality materials used
  • Excellent sound quality for its size

Cons

  • Batteries can drain quickly (but this is normal for any electronic)
  • Sound quality isn’t Bose like (but really, for $29.99 you can’t beat it)

I give the Soundboard a firm 5 stars out of 5. While it’s not the big boy on the block, for what it’s priced at and for what it offers it really is an excellent product.
