banded-icon-pack-1It should be no secret by now that I love icon packs. I love customizing my Android devices with custom themes and icons that suit my mood. Alex J. Miller of A Random Package has designed a beautiful, insanely minimalist icon pack called Banded.

Banded contains over 700 icons and 6 wallpapers, as well as extras like a custom analog clock widget and Muzei Live Wallpaper support, all of which are accessible via the modern dashboard along with a handy icon search function. Zooper skin and Widgetlocker theme support are set to be added in the future. The Banded icon pack is currently compatible with Apex, Nova, ADW, Action, and Go Launcher. Each of these launchers have varying levels of support that are regularly updated by Miller as his icon pack is further refined.

banded-icon-pack-2The design of each icon is a stylistically elementary monochrome tone. A basic image in white-grey, usually the app’s most noticeable symbol,  represents each app and is surrounded by a white-grey square border with slightly rounded edges that lends fluidity to the icons. The backgrounds of all of the icons are totally transparent, leaving your Android device’s wallpaper visible underneath the icons. I love the look of the icons on both solid dark colors and dark patterns like diagonal or zigzagging lines. The color of Banded’s icons matches perfectly with Androud 4.4 KitKat’s latest stylistic designs, so they look really nice when displayed on a KitKat device or a launcher emulating KitKat. Overall, the icons all look quite clean and very smart.

banded-icon-pack-3Like other icon packs, the only issue I have are that missing icons are a tad obvious. Missing icons are substituted with grayed out icons surrounded by the aforementioned white-grey border. Granted, there are only a few icons missing, and you can easily request new icons from the studio, so this isn’t really much of an issue in the long run.

Miller allows users to demo the icon pack before buying by downloading the Banded Icons DEMO from the Google Play Store for free. There’s also a dark version of Banded available for purchase for people who prefer lighter backgrounds and darker icons or who just want to support this creative designer.

banded-icon-pack-4You can pick up the full version of Banded Icon Pack for $1.99 USD from the Google Play Store.

Don’t forget to leave A Random Package a review on the Play Store if you like their work on Banded!
