Fox In Talks To Reboot The X-Files

After years rampant with rumors, speculation, conspiracy theories, UFO-sightings, and Mulder/Scully ‘shippers woeful cries, Fox has confirmed they are looking to re-boot the original X-Files series. The show would not be a spin-off, but rather a continuation of Chris Carter’s original sci-fi show turned cult classic that originally aired from September 10, 1993 to May 19, 2002.
Starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, the show follows two FBI agents through their work and personal lives of investigating supernatural phenomena. No word yet as to whether or not other key players like Mitch Pillegi who played Walter Skinner, an assistant director of the FBI and the duo’s immediate boss, or the ever-mysterious smoking man played by William B. Davis.
panic-x-filesFox TV Group chairman Dana Walden confirmed the original stars would continue in the rebooted series, and that the talks so far are mostly logistical, specifically just trying to find a time when Carter, Duchovny, and Anderson are available.
During an interview last week on Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist Podcast, Gillian Anderson said she “would be f***king overjoyed” to get a chance to play Dana Scully again and further went on to encourage fans to take to social media and let 20th Century Fox know they want to see The X-Files return. Anderson seemed confident that the creators would be overjoyed at the chance to get back into the show if the studio agreed. The interview immediately launched a campaign with the hashtag #XFiles2015.
The show would reportedly have a similar reboot style as Twin Peaks and hopefully would start filming this March. The original series had 201 episodes with a feature film that hit theaters in 1998 as well as another off-shoot film released in 2008, The X Files: I Want to Believe.
Hopefully the scheduling works out and the talks go well between creators and the studio. Obviously, we will trust no one until we see evidence, but the truth is out there.
