OxygenOS Now Ready For The Big Time

|

It’s been a little over a week since we had to reset the One Plus media screw up counter after missing its self-imposed release date for its new OS. Thankfully for all the users still waiting for Android 5.0 it looks like the development is now complete and OxygenOS is ready for download and install if you’re lucky enough to have a One Plus One to install it on.

OxygenOS was due to be released last week however issues with the Google certification process held up the release, meaning One Plus gave away 5 handsets. Oxygen is the new rom from One Plus, packed with features and is taking over from Cyanogen on new handsets shipped.  However if you are already in possession of one with Cyanogen installed you are able to install it without too much hassle.

Oxygen Release

Full details have been outlined on the One Plus forums, and if your reasonably proficient with Android handsets or have flashed a ROM before the instructions should make easy going. The flashing process will completely wipe the device so make sure all your data is backed up to an external source just to be safe.

The new OS has been developed by a few developers who previously worked on the Paranoid Android ROM. The new OS extends on their principles, making the rom clean, light and maintaining Google’s Material and Lollipop design. The majority of the One Plus created modifications are still present along with a few more just for OxygenOS.

They have built in a gestures platform allowing customised options such as quick launch, battery icon modifications and an animated volume panel. We have put together a few screen shots above, with thanks to Bluewall on Twitter. If you want to see all the info check out the official thread on the One Plus forums or One Plus have also put together a great demo video below.
