Aston Martin Takes On Tesla With Its Own Electric Car

When it comes to electric cars it’s hard not to say the name Tesla, at this point it’s almost second nature. While there are other electric cars on the market that are selling and doing decent business, Tesla is usually the first name that you think of. But now a new player in the game wants to muscle in on Tesla with its own electric car, Aston Martin. That’s right, the luxury car maker intends to make its own electric car based off of its Rapide sedan.

Aston Martin’s CEO Andy Palmer said that an 800hp Rapide EV is in the works and it will have a 200 mile range. Palmer says they’ve already done real world testing of EV vehicles but wouldn’t disclose anymore details. While Aston Martin is going to compete with Tesla in the looks and function categories, the price category is another matter. Expect the Rapide EV to price in between $200,000 and $250,000. That’s a huge chunk of change even for some current Tesla owners.

Palmer also says there is a DBX EV in the works for Aston Martin as well, but that’s not expected until the end of the decade. It will be interesting to see if Aston Martin happened to use any of Tesla’s open source data to develope their own EV vehicles. With Tesla doing so well you would think that data would have been useful to Aston Martin and just about any car company looking to build EV’s.
