Xbox One outsells PlayStation 4 again, thanks to Xbox One S

According to a tweet and a quote to Engadget, the Xbox One has outsold the PlayStation 4 for the month of August. While the NPD Group, who track and compare monthly sales for numerous products, hasn’t released the August details yet, Aaron Greenberg took to Twitter with the news.

This comes on the heels of Xbox Live being rated highest for both speed and reliability by leading industry research firm IHS Markit in an independent study. In addition, Xbox Marketing CVP Chris Nichols had this to say to Engadget:

“Thanks to our fans and their excitement for new Xbox One games and the recently launched Xbox One S, which is the only console available this holiday with built-in UHD 4K Blu-ray, 4K video streaming and HDR for video and gaming, Xbox One was the best-selling console in the U.S. in August, according to NPD Group.”

Of course, the mention of UHD 4K Blu-ray support was a direct shot fired towards Sony who announced the PlayStation 4 Pro with 4K support yesterday, but for some reason it didn’t get 4K Blu-ray support. The next few months should be interesting, with some great Xbox exclusives coming out (ReCoreForza Horizon 3, and Gears of War 4) — all of which are Xbox Play Anywhere games meaning they are playable on both the Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. November will be the telling month though when the PlayStation 4 Pro finally goes on sale.
