It seems like everyone is getting into the card-based game craze these days. It turns out the upcoming Halo Wars 2 is no exception as 343 Industries has announced the Halo Wars 2: Blitz multiplayer beta which introduces a new mode based on card play.

“I’m happy to announce one more opportunity to get hands-on with Halo Wars 2 and ask for your participation in one final large-scale multiplayer beta,” wrote Dan Ayoub, Studio Head of Strategy Games at 343 Industries. “This time around the focus will be exclusively on our brand-new, card-based game mode, Blitz, and it’ll be available on both Windows 10 PC and Xbox One beginning Jan. 20, 2017.”

It will definitely be interesting to see how 343 Industries is able to blend RTS gameplay, deck building, and card-based strategy play. Not many details were given, but Ayoub did mention that your card deck is composed of air, ground, and infantry units and it appears you have a faction leader to lend some assistance as well.

It’s not the first time a game has included a card-based game mode within it. Gwent, the card-based game within The Witcher III, proved to be so popular that CD PROJEKT RED is making a standalone Gwent game, which is currently in beta. While not included in Smite, Hi-Rez Studios is also currently beta testing Smite Tactics, another card-based game set in the Smite universe.

What do you think about the inclusion of a card-based game mode within Halo 2 Wars? Are you curious to try it out during the Blitz multiplayer beta starting on January 20th? Let us know in the comments below or on Google+, Twitter, or Facebook.
