Design

The dodocool Self-powered Wireless Doorbell consists of two main components: the transmitter (doorbell button) and the receiver (doorbell chime). The transmitter is a white disc-shaped plastic button inset into a round frame. A thumb sized divot sits near the bottom of the button. At the top of the button is the dodocool logo with a small blue LED light below it which lights up when the button is pressed. The back side of the transmitter is a 3M tape which covers the entire surface.

The receiver has the same identical shape as the transmitter and the same divot which, in this case, contains a light which flashes when the button on the transmitter is pressed. The backside has your AC power prongs for plugging into a wall outlet. Below the prongs you’ll find the actual doorbell speaker. On the left side of the receiver, you’ll find two buttons — one for volume and one to set the chime tone.

While the design of the transmitter and receiver is nothing fancy, it does work fine for the purpose of the doorbell and the receiver doesn’t look out of place when plugged into your wall outlet.

Installation

Installation of the dodocool Self-powered Wireless Doorbell is very easy. Depending on the surface you are attaching the transmitter to you can simply peel the paper off the 3M sticker on the back of the transmitter and stick it to the surface where you want it. If the surface is rougher, you can opt to use the included 3M sticker and screw it to the wall with the included screws and then stick the transmitter to that.

To complete the installation, simply plug the receiver into a wall outlet in a location where you can hear it easily. When you first plug it in, the doorbell will ring twice and the light in the divot on the receiver will blink. The transmitter and receiver already come paired, but if they aren’t functioning properly or you want to add a second receiver, you can pair them by following the instructions in the guide.

Ease of Use

One the receiver is plugged in, you’re good to go. Pressing the button on the transmitter rings the receiver to let you know someone is at your door. Changing the volume is as easy as pressing the volume button on the receiver to cycle through the four volume levels. Likewise, you can change to one of 38 chimes by pressing the chime button on the receiver to cycle through them until you find one you like.

Performance

The dodocool Self-powered Wireless Doorbell works rather well. We placed the transmitter at our front door and tried the receiver in various outlets in our house. It didn’t matter which outlet we plugged it into — on the main floor, the second floor, or the basement, and the receiver chimed without fail when the button on the transmitter was pressed. While you can get multiple receivers, this is a handy side feature as you can move the receiver around if you wish depending on where you are so you can better hear the chime should your doorbell ring.

Price/Value

With an MSRP of $24.99USD, the dodocool Self-powered Wireless Doorbell is currently selling on Amazon.com for $16.99. In addition, the folks over at dodocool have given us a code (use XHC9K3TD at checkout now through 5/30/2017) to pass on to you which brings the price down to $9.34 for a limited time. Given the ease of installation, use, and the fact it doesn’t require a battery, this wireless doorbell is very fairly priced if you pick it up on sale.

Wrap-up

While it’s nothing fancy, if you’re in need of a new doorbell and are looking for an easy to install solution which doesn’t require batteries or wiring, the dodocool Self-powered Wireless Doorbell will definitely do the trick.
