HTC teases a “New Years Resolution” that could be a 4K HTC Vive

HTC has been sticking with their virtual reality headset, the HTC Vive, for a long time with no sort of upgrade. It wasn’t really necessary since the Oculus Rift hasn’t dealt with many upgrades either, but rumor has it that HTC could be coming out with a 4K HTC Vive VR headset.

The current HTC Vive has a resolution of 2160 x 1200 but an upgrade to 4K resolution would be a significant upgrade for HTC and users who would be getting this possible new VR headset. This new VR headset is going to take a bit of time to produce for consumers and HTC reps are dubbing this next Vive headset HTC Vive 1.5 instead of Vive 2.o which would make more sense. It’s understandable why HTC may have chosen “1.5” rather than “2.0” because of the new 4K resolution rather than a whole new redesigned headset with new controllers. Judging from the Tweet above, it looks like it’s the same headset that’s currently out, but time will tell.

HTC also has their HTC Focus VR standalone headset that was announced mid last year in the Chinese market that wouldn’t need a smartphone or PC to function. At that time and to date, there hasn’t been a release date or a price, but since CES2018 is here, HTC could provide us with more information on the HTC Focus.

Since this is all a rumor for the time being, even with the Tweet from HTC’s Twitter page, we still don’t know what their presentation will entail, take this with a grain of salt until Monday. What do you guys think about the HTC Vive using 4K making the user experience much better than its current setup?
