Last year, we had the opportunity to review the Sound BlasterX G5 7.1 HD Audio Portable Sound Card with Headphone Amplifier and were suitably impressed. Creative is back at it with the Sound BlasterX G6 gaming DAC and portable sound card which includes major updates for improved audio for console and PC gaming.

“It’s time to breathe new life into your games with the Sound BlasterX G6 Gaming DAC Amp and USB Sound Card,” said Low Long Chye, General Manager of Creative. “The Sound BlasterX G6 takes experiencing today’s audio-rich gaming content on consoles and PCs to whole new levels of breathtaking playback. With its custom-tuned award-winning Xamp headphone amp and ability to support 7.1 surround, together with its audiophile-grade components and specs, the Sound BlasterX G6 personifies the absolute best performance when it comes to external gaming DACs and USB Sound Cards.”

“We noticed a lot of our fans actually purchased the earlier G5 for PlayStation 4 and other consoles—which was a departure from its traditional usage with PCs. As more and more people discover the value of great audio outside of the world of the PC, we wanted to offer another option with even better performance and components.”

The biggest upgrade to the Sound BlasterX G6 over the G5 is the inclusion of Creative’s Xamp Discrete Headphone Amplifier. The G6 also includes a signal-to-noise ratio increase from 120dB to 130dB, 32-bit/384kHz maximum playback quality (an upgrade from 24-bit/192kHz), and an output impedance reduction from 2.2Ω to 1Ω. In addition, Creative added on-board sidetone mic controls to the G6. When used with the Sound Blaster Connect software on the PC, the G6 also supports the Aurora Reactive lighting system.
