According to a recent report by Direct Feed Games, Microsoft could be working on bringing Xbox Game Pass and select Xbox titles to the Nintendo Switch. That’s right, Xbox games on Nintendo’s portable console.

For those who don’t know what Xbox Game Pass is, it’s Microsoft’s game subscription service. With over 100 games fully playable for a monthly fee, first-party Microsoft games like Crackdown 3, the upcoming Gears of War 5, and Forza Horizon 4 also come to the service the day they are released.

While the Nintendo Switch would be unable to natively play Xbox games, Microsoft’s work with Project xCloud to stream native console games to pretty much any device with a screen lends credence to this rumor. First announced at E3 2018, we’ll get more information about Microsoft’s Project xCloud ambitions at GDC 2019.

In addition, Microsoft has also posted another GDC 2019 session listing is looking to bring Xbox Live functionality to mobile devices, the Nintendo Switch and more with a new cross-platform XDK.

If you start to put the pieces together, things certainly seem to add up. If Microsoft is talking about bringing Xbox Live functionality to the Switch and are pursuing cloud gaming streaming in the form of Project xCloud, why not use existing hardware with a solid install base to push Xbox Game Pass and Xbox games via streaming?

It would be a win for Nintendo as well. I’m certain there are more than a few gamers who would pick up a Nintendo Switch in order to play Xbox games on the go or away from their Xbox. Once those gamers have a Switch in hand, it’s not a stretch to see them picking up a Nintendo game or three as well, further boosting Nintendo’s coffers.

Direct Feed Games has a decent track record with regards to Nintendo rumors in the pass according to a few other outlets. The YouTube video also claims that games like Ori and the Blind Forest could be getting direct ports to the Nintendo Switch as well. Check out the full report below:

Personally, I think Microsoft is on the right track with trying to capitalize on and push the Xbox Game Pass service and game streaming to other devices. The Nintendo Switch is definitely a great handheld candidate and it’ll be interesting to see when, or if, this actually comes to fruition. Really, it’s a win-win for both companies.
