Party Chat on the PS4 will be receiving an update

Some may argue that it’s not really an E3 event without Sony showing up and displaying some cool new stuff… No show aside, that’s not stopping the company from making an announcement or two. Sony’s Social Media Director Sid Shuman has revealed an update that will be coming to the party Chat function on the gaming console.

Sony is looking for some beta testers to try out this new function in the Preview Program, which you can register for here. Do note that if you are in the update but one of your other party members are not, you won’t be able to join the same party as them. However, Sony is going to be distributing some codes that your friends can redeem to be apart of the new party update.

In the new update, Sony is increasing the maximum party participants from 8 to 16. While this is a huge jump and a bit of overkill, it will be nice for games with more players in multiplayer matches. There’s also improved audio quality for voice chat and improved network connectivity.

If you are living in the U.S. and want to participate in the Preview Program, you will have early access to the chat transcript feature that’s going to be through the party and the PlayStation 4 Second Screen app. From the app, you can voice chat to text or enter the text manually and the app will read aloud what you said to the other members in the party. This feature is also only available in English.
