Design

The RockJaw Audio T5 Ultra Connect headphones have a fantastic minimal, yet industrial, design that is appealing to my eye. The brushed aluminum chassis exudes this rugged industrial look, but it’s not overtly in your face. It’s a subtle design with nice chamfered lines that is really very attractive.

The ends of the headphones are magnetized so they clip together when they are not being used and just dangling around your neck. The ends also have the RockJaw logo on them, which is clean and subtle. Going down along the wire off of the right earbud you’ll find the inline mic as well as the control module, while the left wire holds the battery and nothing more.

The control module is pretty basic in its setup. There are three buttons that control the volume up/down, track skipping, power/Bluetooth connection, and Google/Siri. There’s also a port cover that covers up the USB-C port for charging. YAY for USB-C!

Overall, these are pretty basic headphones, but they do have a bit of flair in their design which I appreciate. They are made up of high-quality materials and have a solid build quality. I think the whole package could be improved a bit if they used braided cables instead of the regular cables, but that’s just a minor personal preference.

Ease of Use

Most Bluetooth headphones are dead simple to use, and the RockJaw Audio T5 Ultra Connect is no different. The first order of business is to charge the headphones to full before turning them on. Once you have them charged you can turn them on and get to pairing.

Pairing the RockJaw Audio T5 Ultra Connect is simple. Just hold the middle button down on your first power-up for 5-6 seconds and you’ll hear a voice say you’re in pairing mode. Find the headphones in your Bluetooth menu on your device, choose the headphones and you’re paired. That’s it, no need to re-pair as your device will auto pair every time you turn the headphones on.

If you want to pair the RockJaw Audio T5 Ultra Connect to a different device, press and hold the volume up button for 3-4 seconds. When complete, the LED will blink blue and red and you can pair to a different device. To activate Google Assistant or Siri just double press the middle button quickly and your assistant will be available.

The RockJaw Audio T5 Ultra Connect also comes with Comply ear tips which are like earplugs in the material they use. This gives you a nice solid seal that is slightly better than the silicone ear tips. For the Comply tips, you just need to squish them down, insert into your ear and hold them there for a second so they can expand, and then you’re done.

Overall, these are simple to use. There are no surprises here as the controls are pretty basic.

Sound

The RockJaw Audio T5 Ultra Connect comes with silver, black, and gold tuning filters. Each of these filters is designed to give you a different sound signature. The headphones come preinstalled with the gold set which is supposed to deliver a flat EQ and give you a more natural sound.

I found that the gold set still favored the bass frequencies more than I’d like. This is not really horrible with a booming bass that’s overwhelming, it’s just a bit more bassy than a flat EQ. The other filters seem to do what they say they will, but I preferred the gold set overall. I think most people will like the more natural sound which is probably why they come preinstalled.

Overall, the sound here is good, while the bass frequencies are a bit more aggressive than I liked with the gold tips, it didn’t blow away the bass or mids. The silver set of tips does add much more bass to the mix so if you’re a rap or hip-hop lover, those are for you.

Reception/Call Quality

Bluetooth reception and call quality were both great here, no complaints.

Battery Life

The RockJaw Audio T5 Ultra Connect is advertised as having 11-hours of battery life, which we got close to a few times. I’d put our experience at an average of 10-hours with volume at 60% most of the time. Battery life will vary from user to user but I believe most will be happy with the battery life here.

Price/Value

The RockJaw Audio T5 Ultra Connect is priced at US$99.95 and, honestly, there are a lot of headphones in this price range which sound just as good as these. So you can’t really go wrong with the RockJaw Audio T5 Ultra Connect. They’re more than competitive in price and value with many other wireless audio brands.

Wrap Up

The RockJaw Audio T5 Ultra Connect is a solid pair of wireless headphones. There are other wireless audio choices, but these can stand toe-to-toe with the rest of the wireless audio competition at this price point. I’d recommend these if you’re looking for a pair of headphones in this price range with these features.
