New on Netflix November: The Crown, Gilmore Girls, and more

|
, ,

We’re going to try something a bit different here for our New on Netflix November list. In the past we’ve split them out into two separate lists, but there is definitely a lot of crossover between the two — not to mention the extra work that goes into doubling up on posts! This month, we’re doing a single post. Shows that are coming to the U.S. only will be marked with (US), and likewise for shows coming to Canada (CA) only. If a show or movie isn’t marked with either US or CA, it will be coming to both services.

Before we get started, check out the Netflix November sizzle reel for the U.S.:

…and Canada.

Netflix Original Series

November starts off strong with the highly anticipated Netflix Original The Crown which tells the inside story of two of the most famous addresses in the world — Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street — and the intrigues, love lives and machinations behind the great events that shaped the second half of the 20th century. Get ready for a deeper look into the lives of Queen Elizabeth II and those around her on November 4th.

November 11th is a busy day for the streaming service with four Netflix Original Series dropping on that day. Case is about a smart lawyer whose drinking and recklessness send him on a path of self-destruction finds new purpose investigating a teenager’s apparent suicide, while Estocolmo follows an undercover agent, a prosecutor and a journalist try to bring down a human trafficking ring, but nothing is as straightforward as it seems.

Fans of Rome and Spartacus will definitely want to tune in to Roman Empire: Reign of Blood, a Netflix Original which is a stylish mix of documentary and historical epic chronicles the reign of Commodus, the emperor whose rule marked the beginning of Rome’s fall. For something a bit lighter, photographers may want to check out Tales by Light, a new series in which Netflix follows renowned photographers as they explore far-flung locales, capturing extraordinary images that present nature and culture in a new light.

The first season of Paranoid — a murder mystery that opens into a bigger pharmaceutical conspiracy — hits Netflix on November 17th, along with the second season of Lovesick. The second season of Lovesick, the series formerly known as Scrotal Recall, stars Johnny Flynn, Antonia Thomas and Daniel Ings, all returning for more fun in this delightful, romantic comedy. Season two will consist of eight episodes.

November finishes up as far as Netflix Original Series are concerned with the debut season of 3% and the return of Gilmore Girls. In 3%, the first Original Series from Brazil, a post-apocalyptic world is cruelly divided between progress and devastation, you only get one chance to improve your lot — and only 3% will succeed.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will unfold in four 90-minute installments, each set in a different season. This follow-up to the Gilmore Girls finds Lorelai, Rory and Emily all dealing with the complications of life and family in their sleepy little Connecticut town.

Netflix Original Films

A trio of Netflix Original Films debut on both Netflix U.S. and Netflix Canada, starting with Kevin James in True Memoirs of an International Assassin on November 11th. The action comedy stars Kevin James as Sam Larson, a mild-mannered would-be author who gets mistaken for a killer-for-hire when his fictional novel about an international assassin is published as a true story. When the book is a huge success, he is suddenly kidnapped, taken out of the country, and forced into an assassination plot.

On November 18th, viewers can tune into Divines, a movie about a ghetto near Paris where drugs and religion reign supreme. Dounia is hungry for her share of power and success and enlists the help of her best friend, Maimouna, she decides to follow the footsteps of a respected dealer. When Dounia meets a young sensuous dancer, another window opens for her through which she glimpses the promise of a very different kind of life.

Finally, on November 22nd, four estranged brothers return to their childhood home to be with their dying mother in Mercy. A substantial inheritance is tied to her fate, and loyalties and true intentions are called into question when a gang of mysterious masked men descend upon the family.

Netflix Original Comedy Specials

Dana Carvey, Dieter Nuhr, Colin Quinn, and Michael Che all have Original Comedy specials coming to Netflix in November. Dana Carvey’s Straight White Male, 60 airs on November 4th where he makes quite the impression with his distinctive brand of comedy in his new, outrageously funny stand-up special filmed at the The Wilbur Theatre in Boston, MA. Later in the month, Germany’s top comedian Dieter Nuhr presents an up-to-date stand-up special exclusively for Netflix, taped live in the legendary former silent film theater Delphi in Berlin at the beginning of October of 2016. Dieter Nuhr: Nuhr in Berlin starts streaming on November 15th.

Another SNL veteran, Colin Quinn delivers a taping of his sold out off-Broadway show to Netflix for his second stand-up special on November 18th. In front of a crowd of fellow locals, Quinn presents the history of New York and the different groups who shape the personality of the city in Colin Quinn: The New York Story.

It must be SNL month on Netflix, as SNL Weekend Update co-anchor and former Daily Show correspondent, Michael Che brings down the house with his laid-back style as he tackles society’s most controversial actions through his hilarious prism at the Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse in Brooklyn, New York. Michael Che Matters streams in Canada and the U.S. on November 25th.

Netflix Original Documentaries

After a few months of some hard hitting documentaries, only one Netflix Original Documentary hits the streaming service in November. The Ivory Game is an epic documentary feature that goes undercover into the dark and sinister underbelly of ivory trafficking. Award-winning director Richard Ladkani and Academy Award–nominated director Kief Davidson filmed undercover for 16 months with a crack team of intelligence operatives, undercover activists, passionate frontline rangers and tough-as-nails conservationists, to infiltrate the corrupt global network of ivory trafficking. A production from Terra Mater Film Studios and Vulcan Productions, the film follows poachers in pursuit of the ‘white gold’ of ivory. Time is running out for the African elephants, dangerously nearing closer and closer to extinction.

Fans of the talk show Chelsea can expect guests including Chelsea Clinton, Sarah Jessica Parker, Trevor Noah, Stella McCartney, Milo Ventimiglia, Matt LeBlanc, Jessica Chastain, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Emmy Rossum, Sen. Barbara Boxer, and more.

Netflix Original Series For Kids

One new series and the return of three other Netflix Original Series for Kids will be sure to keep your kids entertained. The first season of World of Winx debuts on November 4th and engages the Winx in their mission, starting an undercover, worldly journey in order to make talented kids’ dreams come true. Danger Mouse‘s second season hits on November 11th, All Hail King Julien returns for a fourth season on November 11th, and the lovable Beat Bugs return for their second season on November 18th.
