A glimpse at the next BlackBerry Android phone with keyboard?

We’ve seen a few BlackBerry Android phones already with the Priv and the newer DTEK50 and DTEK60. Even the news of a BlackBerry Android phone with a physical keyboard isn’t all that new since the Priv did have a physical keyboard. The Priv keyboard was nestled under the screen, which made the Priv more of a slider phone than a traditional BlackBerry keyboard phone. Mobilesyrup is reporting and showing off a leaked image of a BlackBerry device codenamed “Mercury.”

The Mercury shows what appears to be a BlackBerry Android phone with the physical keyboard proudly front and center. As you can see, it appears to have that classic BlackBerry keyboard look. The rumored specs for the Mercury are a 4.5″ display, 18MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, 32GB storage, 3GB of RAM, 2GHz Snapdragon processor, and a fingerprint scanner in the spacebar. The rumor is that this BlackBerry will be the last smartphone produced byBlackBerry, although we’ve heard that before.

At this point, we’re not sure why BlackBerry is still trying with these phones. The Priv did get some great praise in reviews and it looked like a solid smartphone, but it just didn’t take off at all. The DTEK50 and DTEK60 also faced a similar fate, despite BlackBerry’s efforts with the phones, no one seems to care. Perhaps the company just wanted to make their last phone as a tribute to what they started. Many people loved physical keyboards on phones for a very long time, but I think most everyone has been assimilated into onscreen keyboards and there’s no turning back.

What do you think of the BlackBerry Mercury? Are you still longing for a physical keyboard? Or are you over it? Do you think this will be the last BlackBerry? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+.
