Hands On First Impression: Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit

This week, Samsung Mobile began a limited distribution of some flagship accessories. Top tier retailers and selected employees are now actively carrying and utilizing the next wave of Galaxy devices. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to get a limited hands on with the Galaxy Gear Fit smartband, and while this is by no means a full review, I did come away with some very distinct impressions.

Wow. It Is Light:

It’s a feather. I picked it up, and was amazed how little it weighed. I literally did a double check to make sure it was not a try on dummy. One can safely say that this device will not slow anyone down. The metal closure is unique, using two pressure beads to snap into the band, providing for a very comfortable fit. Once you lift one, you’ll understand.

Dat Screen:

The display is drop dead gorgeous. Black blacks, vibrant colors, and crystal clear. Custom wallpapers are supported via the all new Fit Manager application, and changing the display only takes a few seconds. All in all, the visuals are stunning for a wearable.

The Galaxy Gear Fit is, first and foremost, a fitness band. It will give you full notifications for all of your apps, with some customization. Focusing on fitness, the Gear Fit will link with your music player of choice, and control is brisk. with apps opening without any visible lag.

The Bottom Line:

While we will all have to wait a few more weeks for the final, full reviews, the Galaxy Gear Fit makes an impressive first impression, and appears to move Samsung’s wearable tech line a huge step forward. We’ll be sure to update as more information becomes available. What do you think of the Fit? Excited or not? Let us know in the comments below or on Google+, Twitter and Facebook.
