Design

The Dashmount dock isn’t much to really look at in terms of aesthetic design. It is functional and well-built but it’s not a showpiece by any means. The dock consists of three pieces, the clamp/wireless charging puck, alligator mount, and nut to secure everything together. Everything is made of sturdy plastics except the puck’s clamp is made of metal. There is a MicroUSB port and charging indicator on the bottom of the puck as well.

The alligator mount doesn’t play well with all vents, but that’s normal for most mounts like this. I also felt the locking nut could use more force. I felt as if it did not hold the puck in place well enough allowing it to sort of flop around more than I like. The design worked really well in our 2016 Honda Odyssey but not so well in our 2000 Honda Accord Coupe.

Overall, the design is decent. Some users may have difficulty with certain vents but for the most part, it works like any other mount of this nature.

Performance

There is something to be said for being able to just put your phone on the dock and not worrying about fumbling for a cable. The Ventev Dashmount wireless charging car kit gives you exactly that freedom. Wireless charging also works through most phone cases, at least the ones I used on both my iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.

The dock holds the phones with enough clamping force to keep them from slipping out. I do think if you have a really large phone and large case, you may run into the phone slipping out of the clamp. I didn’t experience the phones falling out but on occasion, the 8 Plus did slip slightly down.

Overall, the performance is what you would expect from wireless charging. It’s effective and allows you to not have to worry about fumbling for a cable.

Price/Value

The MSRP on the entire car kit is $59.99USD and its current sale price on Amazon is $53.30USD. That price point may be steep for some but the real value of this dock is its wireless charging. It does that well and if that’s what you’re after, it should work well in that regard.

Wrap Up

This is a nice dock, though it has some quirks that you’ll need to test in your own car and vents. I’d recommend giving it a go if you’re interested and if it doesn’t work in your specific setup, return it to Amazon for a refund. This is one of these items that may work super well for some but not for others.
