Nothing has finally announced its upcoming Nothing Phone (2a), a budget phone based on the company’s Phone 2 that was released in July 2023. The company revealed it in a post on X today with a launch event date that’s happening on March 5th, 2024 along with a video on YouTube.

The phone has been in the rumor mill for some time, with people trying to fill in the gaps with speculations. That’s including the bit of information Nothing has provided us in the past. Even so, in the video above, no further information has been provided on specs, pictures of what the phone looks like, albeit some concept pictures, or what the pricing could be. However, it has been confirmed that the US will be part of the official release of the phone but with a caveat. It will be under a “Developer Program” somewhat similar to how the Phone 1 was released in a “Beta Membership” program.

As for current rumors for the Phone (2a), it’s said to cost under €400 in the EU, or about $430 in the States, and MediaTek’s Dimensity 7200 processor, and a simplified Glyph interface with three light strips instead of the 11 that’s on the Phone 2. There could also be a dual-camera setup where the two lens shooters are in a horizontal position, leading back to the “See the world through fresh eyes.” tagline for the phone.

It may be a bummer that the States aren’t really getting the Nothing Phone (2a) because of a “Developer Program”. But if we all cross our fingers, maybe the company will give an official release date for the US later down the line.
