Reuters is reporting that Blackberry will be entering a deal with Amazon, Inc. to begin offering 240,000 Android apps through the Amazon App Store on newer Blackberry devices. This is supposed to happen soon after Blackberry performs an upgrade to its operating system later this fall. But is this enough to pull Blackberry out of the grave?
Typo, the iPhone 5/5s keyboard case that brings a physical keyboard to the iPhone 5/5s has been ordered to cease sales of its case by a US district judge in San Francisco. If you remember sometime last year, Blackberry decided to sure Typo because they felt the companies case looked too similar to Blackberry’s iconic keyboard. CNET and Reuters report that US District Judge William Orrick ruled in favor of Blackberry, saying that they proved the “likelihood” of infringement and Typo had not given evidence to refute that.
Most of us have already assumed that Blackberry’s position at the top (in the U.S.) was coming to an end. We also assumed that Windows Phone would likely pass Blackberry at some point. International Data Group made the call earlier that Blackberry had lost its third position to Windows Phone but not everyone agreed. But now comScore has also verified that their data points to Blackberry slipping to 4th and Windows Phone pulling into the 3rd slot behind Android and iOS, albeit a distant 3rd.

As an avid Android user I often wonder how anyone can choose another platform for their personal device on a daily basis. I fully realize that people have different tastes, and want something I might not, or need something I might not care so much about. I often poke fun at people with iPhones, Windows Phones and BlackBerrys. However, this has always been in jest and never meant to belittle anyone or their choices. BlackBerry Ltd announced their preliminary second quarter fiscal 2014 results on Friday, and the results are no surprise to most in the mobile market. The results show a clear loss (operating loss of $950 million) for Blackberry as well as a workforce reduction of over one-third.
