A number of new and updated features including FastStart, Groups, and Search updates are rolling out starting today to Xbox One owners in the July Xbox Update. These features have been available to Xbox Insiders in the Xbox Insider Program rings and are the result of input and feedback from those users.
Perhaps the biggest new feature is FastStart which Xbox announced back at the Xbox E3 Briefing last month. As the name implies, FastStart loads the files needed to start playing a game sooner while the rest of the game downloads in the background. According to Xbox, this means you should be able to play a game twice as fast as the old method. For the time being, however, only select titles will be enabled right now with support coming to more games over time.
While Pins are a great way to “pin” and easily locate your favourite games and apps, it can fill up quite quickly. In the July Xbox Update, you can now create Groups for specific types of contents. Groups are easily accessible on the home screen if you add them as a tile, as well as in My Games & Apps and the Guide. For example, you can set up a Group and call it Media and place all your media-related apps in it or one called RPGs and add all your RPG games to it. Pins are still around, so if you prefer that method, you’ll still have that option.
One of the updates I found rather nice during the Xbox Insider updates was the improved search functionality. With the update, you’ll be able to press Y anywhere in the dashboard to bring up the search dialog. Once it’s up, you can also filter by local content, Store content, or settings to make it easier and faster to find what you’re looking for.
As well, Xbox has made some Mixer improvements including making it easier to share your controller on the web with friends as well as enabling full-screen webcam broadcasting and improving broadcast video quality.Source: Major Nelson
