Report: Record Labels Pushing For Sale Of Spotify

Spotify

Digital Music News reporter, Paul Resnikoff, is making some claims based on information from sources inside and outside the music industry that point to Spotify being sold. According to his article, the music industry, Warner Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Universal Music Group. Have a 20% stake in Spotify which they took as a form of payment rather than licensing fees. It’s these groups that are seeking to push the sale of Spotify, which they estimate to be valued at $10 billion. With Apple buying Beats streaming service it sounds as if the industry moguls think a sale of Spotify could get them a big payday and they could still license music to whomever they sell it off to.

One of the things many Apple fans and tech blogs alike were predicting would come out of WWDC this year was iOS multitasking and split-screen capability. But that didn’t happen; Tim Cook and the boys from Apple made no such announcement much to the dismay of many. It seems the predictions are at least true that Apple is working on split-screen multitasking.

The $25 Firefox Phone For India, Will It Be A Hit?

Currently there are three major players in the smartphone mobile operating system market, Android, iOS and Windows Phone. All of these can be found globally with different shares of different markets. Now Firefox is attempting to assert itself into a virtually untapped market starting in India, the low-budget market. While there are plenty of people who can afford the latest flagship phones from each respective mobile OS there’s an equal number of people who cannot afford to have an iPhone, HTC M8 or Nokia phone in their pockets.

What If Apple Is Buying Beats For Future Wearable Tech?

Welcome to the darkside Beats
Welcome to the darkside Beats

It makes me sick to my stomach just typing it. This entire deal makes me angry.  As someone who would like to see Apple prosper (please do not interpret that to mean I’m a fangirl) I just can’t wrap my head around this deal.  I will admit, I purchased a pair of craptastic Beats earbuds recently (read: within the past year) and was gravely disappointed.  How could headphones cost this much and sound so horrible?  At that point I ended any dealings with Beats.  So when I heard that Apple purchased Beats…it was just a sad day.

What If Apple Is Buying Beats For Its Demographics?

I have been scratching my head since I heard the rumors of Apple buying Beats and continuing to scratch it since it actually happened. The reasons flowing through the interwebs simply do not equate in my mind. On one hand, you have the camp that is firmly placing the purchase on Beats streaming music service, which hasn’t been all that successful.

Analyst Claims He Has Details About Apple’s Smartwatch

Apple-Smartwatch
courtesy pocket-lint.com

Let’s be clear here, until the fruit company makes an official announcement nothing any analyst or leakster says will hold water. That being said, Brian Blair of Rosenblatt Securities claims he has details about Apple’s possible smartwatch which he says come from a Taiwanese supply chain for Apple. I usually try to avoid articles like this but the source site is Pocket-lint and I had to laugh at the headline for their story (Apple iWatch details leak, said to look like the Moto 360). The reason Mr. Blair and Pocket-lint say the Apple smartwatch looks like the Moto 360? Because it is round. Yes it is round. Which kind of makes it look like a hundred different watches on the planet doesn’t it?

XDA Developers send along word that Researchers at Columbia University have created a way for iOS Apps to run on Android.  While Android has certainly decreased iOS’s lead in app quality/quantity over the last few years, there are still iOS exclusives that will probably never come to Android.  The University’s project, code named Cider, looks to change that.

iOS8 Rumored To Finally Bring Multiple Windows To The iPad

Multitasking-iPad-Air-Gary-Wang

Apple has long been known to march to the beat of their own drummer. It’s a very rare occurrence that they follow what other industry competitors are doing in terms of hardware and software. One of the things Samsung and Windows has been doing on their tablets (and phablets for that matter) is multitasking. TechnoBuffalo (via 9to5 Mac) is reporting sources have revealed that iOS8 will indeed allow users to multitask on the iPad by having two applications open at once with the ability to interact with each other. The new interface is said to only function in landscape mode, competitors allow for portrait mode too but the talk is landscape only for iPad.

Apple’s Speculative Purchase Of Beats Audio Begs The Question, Why?

Beats-Apple-Banner

Apple has long made a habit of buying up companies for their technology, innovations and most importantly their patents. Generally the companies purchased are low key under the radar non consumer centered companies, which is why the news of a Beats Audio buyout has me scratching my head. Before we move on to the potential Beats Audio purchase, let’s look at a list of companies Apple has purchased since 2008, shortly after they hit it big with the iPhone.

The War Is Approaching: ComiXology, Amazon, Apple, and Payments

comixology Backwards

Last week ComiXology, a digital comic books distribution platform, made some changes in the way they do business. They uploaded a new app to the Apple App Store to replace the app that they have had up for some time. The changes that were made were not minimal. They stripped out the in app purchase (IAP) system that they had been using and put in a cloud syncing option so that users could log in to the Comixology.com website to make purchases and then sync them to the app. Unsurprisingly, some people were upset.
