It’s looking like July is Xbox Achievements Update month for Microsoft. Last week we took a look at the July Update Preview – part of which focuses on increasing the accessibility to Achievements while in-game.
Ever since the launch of the Xbox One last November, gamers have had to rely on the Xbox One SmartGlass app in order to view their achievement progress when not at their console as the achievements on the Xbox Live website are limited to Xbox 360 and Windows achievements – something that was somewhat puzzling to say the least.

The NCAA on Monday announced that they’ve come to a $20 million settlement with former NCAA Basketball and Football players over their likenesses being used in video games. This settlement will go to former players that could not receive compensation for their likeness while they were in school due to eligibility and amateurism rules in college sports. This comes shortly after a similar settlement between Electronic Arts (EA) and former college players over the same issue. The settlement in that case was $40 million. The Associated Press breaks down how these damages will be awarded.

You don’t necessarily think of game companies having a conscience, but Zuul Labs is looking to buck that trend. Zuul Labs is in the middle of a Kickstarter campaign for their new puzzle/adventure game: Tall Tails. Tall Tails is different from most other games and apps in that a portion of their proceeds from the game will be donated to help rescue dogs in need. Zuul certainly isn’t the first company to do something like this, but it’s definitely rare and refreshing to see. Read on to learn a little bit more about the team and their game.
If you happen to sport an NVIDIA based graphics card inside your humble gaming PC, then you should be pretty familiar with the NVIDIA GeForce Experience app. It is an app that keeps the drivers for your card updated, allows you set up connection for a NVIDIA Shield, set all the graphic settings needed for your games and a whole lot more. Mostly, it is an amazing piece of software that allows you to record yourself gaming and even stream yourself gaming to Twitch. While I have a GeForce GTX 760 OC card, and do a fair amount of gaming, I am still a bit of a noob in all the things the Experience app is capable of. However, I do know that the update that I was just prompted for is a rather interesting and important update. Here is what is new from the change log presented at update time.

Over the last few months analysts and consumers alike have realized that Nintendo has a potentially serious problem. Sales are faltering and brand recognition is being overtaken by other companies, namely Sony, Microsoft and, to a lesser degree, brands available on more mobile devices than Nintendo’s proprietary mobile hardware. Our own Justin Jelinekreported on this earlier last week.
Ars Technica is reporting that multiple sources at Microsoft have been told of a plan to make a few adjustments to the Xbox Live Gold streaming video offerings.
