This year, Google’s I/O keynote speakers didn’t use the phase, “available today…” as often as they have in the past, but they still offered an interesting look at what Google has planned for the future. We still don’t know what the next version of Android will be called, or if it will be 4.5 or 5.0, but a lot of its features were introduced as coming in the “The L Release,” due later this year.

Reuters reports that Cellcom, Israel’s largest mobile phone operator, is looking for a new source of revenue due to a competition heavy market. They will begin to offer television over internet, effectively bringing competition to cable companies and possibly better prices to consumers. Currently there are two cable companies that service the region, HOT and YES. Cellcom’s dive into television provider is sure to shake up the big two.

Call records and social security numbers are among the bits of customer data accessed by parties “outside” of AT&T. In a California regulatory filing, the telecom giant confirmed the incidents took place between April 9 thru the 21st. AT&T would not say how many customers were affected by the breach but ITworld says California law requires a regulatory filing if more than 500 persons were affected.

Digital Music News reporter, Paul Resnikoff, is making some claims based on information from sources inside and outside the music industry that point to Spotify being sold. According to his article, the music industry, Warner Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Universal Music Group. Have a 20% stake in Spotify which they took as a form of payment rather than licensing fees. It’s these groups that are seeking to push the sale of Spotify, which they estimate to be valued at $10 billion. With Apple buying Beats streaming service it sounds as if the industry moguls think a sale of Spotify could get them a big payday and they could still license music to whomever they sell it off to.

Business Insider is reporting this morning that online hotel and flight reservation giant, Priceline, is buying another online reservation maker, OpenTable. Both companies are customer service oriented creating a space on the web for users to make hotel, flight and restaurant reservations, often at discounts or with perks.

The Honeywell Lyric is the newest smart thermostat to be unveiled and is sure to turn some heads. It’s classic design coupled with the ease of installation and amazing capabilities are going to make the Nest thermostat look like more of a gimmick than anything. Honeywell has launched a website to promote their newest thermostat. The idea for the Lyric is based on the ability to control the thermostat with a smartphone with one huge amazing bonus feature: The thermostat recognizes a virtual fence around itself and when you bring your phone inside the fence it knows how to adjust the comfort level in your home so that you don’t have to do anything.

Cisco Report Shows Internet Video Traffic Increasing

Reuters has detailed a new Cisco report indicating that internet traffic from video consumption continues to show signs of increase. Currently 78% of traffic is from video and that is expected to increase to 84% by 2018. This is not at all a surprise to most of us in the tech world but it is a metric that could be used in the hotly debated net neutrality topic.

NCAA Reaches $20 Million Settlement With Former Players Over Video Game Likenesses

The NCAA on Monday announced that they’ve come to a $20 million settlement with former NCAA Basketball and Football players over their likenesses being used in video games.  This settlement will go to former players that could not receive compensation for their likeness while they were in school due to eligibility and amateurism rules in college sports.  This comes shortly after a similar settlement between Electronic Arts (EA) and former college players over the same issue.  The settlement in that case was $40 million.  The Associated Press breaks down how these damages will be awarded.

CNBC is reporting that Sprint and T-Mobile are very close to a summer merger. This rumor has been floating around for a few months now with many T-Mobile customers praying this would not happen. The differences in service and customer service between the two companies is night and day.
